BoardShift Spotlight: Not Far from the Tree

Not Far from the Tree is a Toronto-based fruit picking and sharing project that aims to connect generous tree registrants with excess fruit to volunteers in their community who are willing to pick and share it. The project works to ensure that no good fruit goes to waste when so many people can use it. The bounty from each fruit pick is split three ways: one-third is provided to the tree registrant, one-third is split amongst the picking volunteers, and one-third is delivered to one of the project’s 36 social service agency partners, including food banks, community kitchens, supportive housing programs, and community health centers.

Currently, Not Far from the Tree is looking to fill a board position on its Steering Committee. The ideal candidate for this position has demonstrated experience in community development, fundraising, business, or the social sector and is committed to the project’s mission. The candidate would provide strategic guidance, act as a public champion of the project’s work, and support ad-hoc projects to improve the project’s operations. The candidate should have expertise and/or passion for sustainable food systems, food security, or community building.
