We are pleased to welcome Rainbow’s End as our newest BoardShift organization. Rainbow’s End’s mission is to create supportive and diverse social enterprises through which people living with mental illness can experience empowerment, inclusion, and dignity. They believe that everyone deserves the chance to work and has the right to be treated with an equitable level of respect. Rainbow’s End offers a wide range of services including employment opportunities in landscape maintenance (Mow-Town), snow removal (Snow-Town), food handling and preparation, and customer service experience (Colours Café), among others.
These opportunities translate into meaningful and lasting changes for their employees and have a significant impact on the local community as well. Rainbow’s End works collaboratively with the vocational team at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to provide working opportunities before patients move back into the Hamilton community. The benefits of this experience are described by a senior vocational counselor: “Employees set higher standards for themselves and reach levels they were not aware [they could]. They are valued and learn to believe in their potential through employment at Rainbow’s End.”
Rainbow’s End is currently recruiting a Board Member for Social Enterprise. The ideal candidate should be passionate about creating supportive and diverse social enterprises through which people living with mental illness can experience empowerment, inclusion, and dignity.
