When he’s not giving back to his community, you can find him exploring the arts and culture scene in the city, picking up his guitar to strum a tune or starring in the occasional Bollywood movie!

I was born in …

Bronxville, New York

I currently live in …

An area called Wallace Emerson in Toronto. Just north of Bloor and Dufferin, it’s an old, unique neighborhood that intersects with a variety of communities and cultures. I love it.

Diverse leadership is important because…

We can’t keep looking to the same people or groups for solutions. Diverse leadership brings more perspective and voices to the decision making process and ensures the right people are engaged and right questions are being asked.

Civic engagement is important because ….

Change often moves slower than we’d like, but every once in a while the conditions are just right and the opportunity to move forward in a big way presents itself. Being informed and engaged ensures you don’t miss out on those opportunities.

My greatest city-building accomplishment to date is …

I’m just about to wrap up a two year term on the ELN Executive Committee. Working closely with my fellow committee members, we’ve delivered a number of events that have helped foster a more connected and engaged region. The network is now 1,500+ members and expanding.

One thing I do to ensure I continue to grow and develop as a leader is…

Ask questions. There’s so much to gain from being curious and asking questions (especially the hard ones). I try to continually push myself to learn as much as possible from as many different people as possible.

One characteristic every leader should possess is …

Self awareness. I think it’s important that leaders have a heightened sense of their strengths, weaknesses and position in society. I think we’re more willing to trust and connect with someone who actively reflects and acknowledges their situation and the things that brought them to this point in their life/career.

If you want to get more engaged in your city or community you should ….

Walk more! The more you explore your neighbourhood/community/city on foot, the more you’ll notice the things that are great and the things that might need some attention.

A hobby/talent of mine that people may not know about …

I play guitar and I’ve been performing in bands in and around Toronto since high school. If all goes to plan, I’ll be playing and performing right through to old age.
