Toronto, ON – June 03, 2025 – CivicAction has launched a transformative new volunteer initiative for youth, focused on building civic engagement. Funded by Canada Service Corps, this meaningful volunteer initiative will empower youth across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) to lead change in their communities. Participants will co-create and complete volunteer placements with organizations that are actively working to address issues of affordability and equitable prosperity.
“Supporting youth leadership is an investment in Canada’s future. Today’s partnership with CivicCorps backs young Canadians taking on big challenges like housing, affordability, and fairness. They’re not waiting for change. They’re building it,” Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario.
Youth CivicCorps aims to engage 120 youth aged 18–30 over three cohorts, with at least half identifying as Indigenous, or from traditionally underserved communities. Participants will be placed with organizations tackling urban issues such as housing affordability and equitable prosperity. The design of each placement is a collaboration between the organizations and the individuals. Youth will build leadership skills, receive mentorship, and receive wellness support.
“Youth CivicCorps would not be possible without the Government of Canada’s commitment to setting a robust course for young rising leaders,” said Leslie Woo, CEO of CivicAction. “Together, we are providing the tools and creating better pathways for youth—particularly those from underserved communities—to become the leaders our cities urgently need. This partnership is a powerful example of what’s possible when community and government come together to invest in future civic leadership.”
Youth CivicCorps builds on CivicAction’s two decades of experience in leadership development and complements existing programs such as DiverseCity Fellows and the Emerging Leaders Network.
Applications for the first cohort open in June 2025. For more information and to apply, please visit Youth CivicCorps – The CivicAction Leadership Foundation or follow @CivicActionCA on social media.
