Heather McDonald became President & CEO of United Way Greater Toronto in spring 2025, taking the helm to drive the organization’s 10-year strategy focused on impact, growth, and operational transformation. A leader in the social and human services sector for over 25 years, she brings deep experience in change management, revenue diversification, and strategic partnership-building. Over 19 years at LOFT Community Services—including seven as CEO—Heather oversaw growth in the organization’s operating budget from $32 million to over $100 million, staff expansion to 1,200, and the development of a $140 million housing portfolio through strategic real estate acquisitions. She led the creation of a supportive housing site for 99 homeless seniors in Bradford and steered the organization through three acquisitions and a major amalgamation, while broadening its funding base through strong donor, government, and community relationships. Her career began in frontline service, with roles at the Family Law Centre, AIDS Committee of London, and Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre, followed by program leadership at Breakaway Addiction Services. Known as a values-driven and strategic leader, Heather is committed to building stronger, more equitable communities across the GTA.
