Mohammad “Moe” Al Akel is a MasterCard Foundation alumnus from the American University of Beirut and a recipient of the Canadian Arab Institute’s 30 Under 30 award in 2023. A passionate advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, Moe began his activism in Lebanon, and after moving to Canada and completing his studies at the University of Waterloo, he went on to serve the community at the AIDS Committee of Durham Region, The Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention, and Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services, helping refugees and newcomers adapt to life in Canada. Currently, as Director at Fife House, Moe leads the AIDS Bereavement and Resiliency Program of Ontario (ABRPO), supporting individuals impacted by AIDS grief and loss. Moe has been recognized with Sher Vancouver LGBT Leadership Awards for two consecutive years (2021 and 2022) and is a sought-after facilitator of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) workshops with Impact Resolutions.
